Access to Samples#
Access to physical samples is possible, here is the Sample Request Procedure.
Evaluation Procedure#
When samples are requested, this is the procedure to evaluate the proposal:
Sample requests are received at geothermal@tudelft.nl (Susanne Laumman monitors this e-mail inbox).
Check availability of samples directly on elabjournal or download the corresponding spreadsheet in the sections below.
Create a new directory in the DAPwellscienceteam/SampleManagement/SampleRequests folder and save the proposal alongside the list of samples.
Send both files the proposal and list of samples to the evaluation committee.
Upon approval of the evaluation committee, fill in the User Consent form
Send it to the user for their signature.
List of Approved Sample Requests#
ℹ Proposal file and user consent forms are available on DAPwellscienceteam/SampleManagement/SampleRequests folder.

Proposal Title |
Analysis Type |
---|---|---|---|
Alexis Koulidis |
CEG/GSE/GE |
Particle size distribution and characterisation of drilling cuttings from DAPGEO-02 |
Particle size distribution, d50, coefficient of uniformity (ratio of d60 to d10), angularity and sphericity, chemical composition (X-ray Diffraction), pore throat size (Scanning Electron Microscope) |
Hemmo Abels |
GSE, Geo-engineering |
DEL-GT-01 Cutting analysis |
The analysis will be non-descructive analysis using optical microscopy. We will report grain size, grain shape, grain sorting, grain mineralogy and photograph to the best possibilities within the TU GeoLaboratory |
Roel Verreussel |
TNO Geological Survey of the Netherlands |
Palynological analyses on core and sidewall core samples of the Nieuwerkerk Formation |
The palynological analyses will provide age and paleoenvironmental data which are relevant for geothermal projects targeting the Nieuwerkerk Formation |
Vidushi Toshniwal |
CEG/GSE/GE |
DAPGEO-02 core shoe samples characterisation |
Laser diffraction, SediGraph analysis (for particle size distribution), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) (for complete mineralogical analysis), Total Organic Content (TOC), Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), Specific Surface Area (SSA), and electrical conductivity and chlorite ion concentration (for pore water salinity estimation). The data is necessary for framing the experimental plans for mechanical testing within the SECUUR project and will contribute to the material characterisation |
Hemmo Abels |
CEG/GSE/AG |
Rock plug analysis of the DEL-GT-01 and 02-S2 wells |
Porosity, bulk density, Vp, Vs, thermal diffusivity, heat capacity, and permeability. Trim-ends will be used for mineralogy (XRD and indirect tools, grain size analysis, thin section petrography, and biostratigraphy). Plugs fluid content will be replaced after these measurements. These proposed measurements will be the baseline for studies on the Delft Sandstone and caprock properties and dynamic behaviour |
Freek Smit |
Aardyn |
Reservoir brine sample composition |
Analysis on the composition of the reservoir brine. The purpose for this is designing the surface facilities and ESP components |
Stijn Beernink |
CEG/GSE/GE |
Analysis of DAPGEO_02 Maassluis cores for HT-ATES research |
Falling head test on whole cores (Kv measurement), Falling head test on plug samples from cores (Kv and Kh measurement), thermal properties measurements on plug samples, sedimentological/geochemical analyses on (mixed) samples from core. Measurements: XRD, XRF, CTOT, TGA |
Hemmo Abels |
CEG/GSE/GE |
Proposal to open the first set of 4-inch rock core sections of DEL-GT-01 |
Analyses will be conducted in the TU Delft Geolaboratory. Full core description: matrix and other colours, grain size, shape and sorting, mineralogy, sedimentary structures including pedogenesis, other components and (trace) fossils, organic remains, and minerals, diagenetic features / mineralisations |
Ties de Jong |
CEG/GSE/AG |
DAPGEO-02 core pore water analysis |
Pore water will be extracted from the core material using mechanical squeezing (Fernández et al., 2014). The analyses will be conducted in the laboratory of the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT) in Madrid |
Alwina Hoving |
TNO HRE |
Geochemical analyses of core samples from Eocene to Miocene deposits from DAPGEO-02 |
XRD: bulk sample, clay minerals; XRF:pressed palet, fusion bead; Total-C, total-S, organic C using CS-elemental analyser; Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA); Sequential extractions of trace elements; SEM-EDX giving insight into the geochemical partitioning of trace elements in the sediment |
